MM2 ancient values guide: every ancient, ranked and explained

By MM2 Values TeamPublished 8 min read

"Ancient" sounds like the top of the mountain, and for a few items it is. For others it is a badge on a knife worth less than a mid godly. This guide lists every ancient with its live value, explains what the tier actually means, and walks through how trades for the big ones get built. The short version: read the number, not the label.

What "ancient" means

Ancient is the tier above godly. Most ancients came out of the big seasonal events. The Christmas ones tend to be ice themed (Icebreaker, Icepiercer, Ice Wing) and the Halloween ones lean spooky (Harvester, Batwing, Hallowscythe). How you earned one changed from year to year: sometimes crafting from event parts, sometimes a top-tier drop, sometimes a reward that turned out to be much harder to get than the event suggested.

Because the events were so different, the supply of each ancient is wildly different too, and supply is what sets value. That is why the tier spans from 15 to 18Kbefore you even count Nik's Scythe. Same badge, completely different markets.

Every ancient, ranked by live value

14ancients on the list. The "in Darkbringers" column is how many Darkbringer (a cheap, high-supply godly most traders own) it takes to match the ancient. It makes the spread easier to feel.

The one that is not really on the list: Nik's Scythe

Nik's Scythe (250M)is priced in the hundreds of millions. That is not a value anyone has ever paid; it is a placeholder for "good luck". The scythe is named after Nikilis, the developer of Murder Mystery 2, and a tiny number of them exist. We keep it on the list because people search for it, and because it is a useful reminder that a number on a value list is only meaningful when trades actually happen at it.

Practical advice: if anyone ever offers you a Nik's Scythe, or asks you to "help them sell" one, you are talking to a scammer. The safety guide covers what that conversation looks like.

Is an ancient always better than a godly?

No, and this is the single most common mistake we see from newer traders. Right now Ice Wing (15) is the cheapest ancient, and 74 godlies are worth more than it. Even the median ancient is beaten by 45 godlies. The top godly, Travelers Gun (5.5K), is worth more than every ancient except the top few.

So when someone says "my ancient for your godly, that's a W for you", open both pages. Sometimes it is. Sometimes they are offering you a 15 for your 400.

How trades for the big ancients get built

Nobody hands over one item for a four-figure ancient. These trades are stacks, and the owner usually wants a little overpay on top. Here is what "even" looks like for the top of the tier, straight from each item's page:

Gingerscope (18K)

Travelers Axe (8.0K)

Celestial (2.5K)

Do these in rounds, since the trade window will not hold a whole stack. Agree the full deal first, then trade round by round, and re-read every slot each round. The bigger the trade, the slower you should go.

Holding ancients

Because no new copies of most ancients enter the game, the supply only ever shrinks (accounts go quiet, items get sat on). That makes the mid and top ancients a reasonable place to park value if you are not actively trading. The cheap ones are a different story: they are cheap because plenty exist, and they are unlikely to climb just because of the badge. Demand is the column to watch. An ancient at demand 2 can take weeks to move even at listed value.

Check an ancient trade

Every ancient's page on the ancient hub shows its live value, rank, and the stacks that trade evenly for it. When someone offers, put both sides into the trade checker before you say yes.

FAQ

Is an ancient always better than a godly in MM2?

No. Ancient is a tier label, not a value. The cheapest ancient right now is Ice Wing at 15, and 74 godlies are worth more than that. Compare the two specific items, not the badges.

How many ancients are there in MM2?

Our list tracks 14. One of them, Nik's Scythe, is priced so high it is effectively untradeable, so in practice there are 13 ancients you might actually see in a trade window.

What is Nik's Scythe worth?

The list shows it in the hundreds of millions, which is not a price anyone pays. It is the list's way of saying the item is basically unobtainable: it is named after Nikilis, the game's developer, and a tiny number exist. If someone offers you one, it is a scam.

How do I trade for a big ancient?

In stacks. Look at the item's page for the stacks that come out even (several godlies, or a couple of chromas), agree the whole deal in chat, then do it in rounds and re-check every round before accepting. Nobody trades one item for a four-figure ancient.
